How to observe Dussehra (Vijayadashami)
- 1If you kept Navratri, break the fast (Parana) and complete the closing rites (ghat visarjan) by your tradition.
- 2In the afternoon (Aparahna), do Aparajita Puja: draw an eight-petal lotus with rice and kumkum and worship Devi Aparajita.
- 3Do Shastra (Ayudha) Puja: clean and worship your tools, vehicles, books and instruments of work.
- 4Worship the Shami tree, and exchange Shami or Apta leaves ('gold') with family and friends.
- 5In the evening, attend or watch Ravana Dahan.
- 6It is an auspicious day to begin learning, new ventures or purchases.
