About Ram Navami
Chaitra Shukla Navami marks the birth of Lord Rama at midday (Madhyahna). It also closes Chaitra Navratri.
How to observe Ram Navami
- 1Bathe early, clean the altar and take the sankalp for the fast.
- 2Fast through the day -- fruits and milk, or one meal without grains -- as your family observes.
- 3Decorate a small cradle and place an idol or image of Ram Lalla, with Sita, Lakshmana and Hanuman if you have them.
- 4At midday (the Madhyahna muhurta, Rama's birth time), do abhishek with panchamrit, offer yellow cloth, Tulsi, flowers and chandan, and rock the cradle.
- 5Offer panjiri, panchamrit, fruits and kheer; recite the Ram Raksha Stotra or Sundar Kand, or chant 'Shri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram'.
- 6Perform aarti and share the prasad; many also do Kanya Pujan to close Navratri.
